Today is the reveal for the challenge of color blog hop hosted my Erin at http://treasures-found.blogspot.com/  We were each given 2 color pallettes to choose from. The pics came from "The Earth as Art" series from NASA. How cool is that? My first choice was Bolivian Deforestation. My favorite colors are pink and turquoise so this was a natural. I challenged myself to not buy anything new for this hop. My first choice was the lampworked pendant by Carol St. Johns. I have been hoarding this pendant for 2 years.  I  peyote stitched tubes using 6 shades of pink and 6 shades of turquoise with white seed beads. I finished the tubes with pink glass discs. Between the tubes I used cranberry pearls with pink faceted jade rounds and teal pearls with amazonite rondelles. I found the light pink beaded chain in my stash and thought that it was a good match for the pendant. The third strand is cranberry glass shapes that I wired into a chain to echo the cranberry color in the pendant. The center of the necklace looked too plain so I added 3 swags of the turquoise seeds and I am pleased with the outcome. I peyote stitched a button from Beadwork magazine for a button and loop clasp. The red in the NASA pic is healthy plant growth. It's amazing to see how much of the rainforest is already gone.

My second color pallette is from the Namib desert in Africa. When I was growing up in Minnesota I saw pics of the desert and thought that it looked lifeless. My first trip to Arizona I was amazed at the wildlife sounds and the feel of that glowing sun on my skin standing in the desert. The Namib desert is located on coastal Africa. The winds off the ocean can cause 980 feet sand dunes. To represent the glowing sun feel I chose silver lined glass lentals and seed beads. The lentals have spots of the light green in them. The grey green rectangles are a stone called silver mist and they are the same green as the spots on the lentals. . The small discs in the center of outer strand are bone. The rounds that complete the straps are yellow and green adventurine. When I was designing this piece I thought that I would use a filigree piece to wrap the focal but in the end I used the filigree as a bail. Light brown pearls in rounds and a drop, bronze glass flower caps, filigree connectors, and dark topaz crystal rondelles complete the ingredients for this necklace. I am honored to be a part of this challenge. I hope that you enjoy the pieces I made. Now please visit the other participants in this great hop.

  7. Thanx for your compliments. I did the Bolivian piece first because I like those colors. I figured that if I had time I would do the desert color too. I am pleased with both pieces, even if the second pic isn't the best.

  8. Both pieces are so pretty, but I am especially drawn to the Namib piece, maybe because that was my own pallette. I think your piece reflects the spirit of that land.

  15. Gorgeous - both of your necklaces pull the colors from the palettes beautifully! I especially love the extra swags you added around the first pendant, and how much those glass lentils remind me of the sun in the second necklace.

    1. Thanx Patti, Yes they are beaded beads. I had fun making them. I have trouble reading a peyote stitch pattern so I just do what my hands tell me to. I was digging through my stash when I spotted the lentils and thought that they were perfect to represent the sunshine. I got them at my bead group's last bead swap. I didn't have a plan for them. I just liked them. Now I know why I got them.

  28. Now, you must have one hellof a stash to not buy anything new and come up with these two beautiful designs that are so lush. What a wonderful job, the first one especially - for me - is so incredible

  29. Thanx, It's wonderful to hear my work called incredible. I do have a pretty fair sized stash. Because I got my favorite colors I had lots to choose from.

  30. Hello Miss Becky! These have two distinctly different flavors. I think that the first is very lush, very romantic. The way you tied together all the colors in the three strands is perfect. And I quite like the extra turquoise swags. The second really has this arid desert feel from the sandy tones to the bleached bone beads. Those lentils are the sun for sure! Thank you for joining me on this journey of color! Enjoy the day. Erin

  31. Thanx Erin, I am pleased that you like my necklaces. I felt the center of the first necklace needed something more. First I made peyote ruffles in pink and turquoise but they didn't look right so I tried the swag & liked it. Thanx for putting on this great challenge. I will be back for more of your challenges. This was loads of fun.

  34. Thanx, No one has said that they were in awe of my skills before. I'm just getting started on the web with my jewelry and it feels great to have other jewelry artists praise. I had a harder time with the desert palette because I don't look good in yellow so I tend to not use it much.

  35. Fabulous work Becky! I have yet to try my hand at peyote, although I am intrigued by it. You have inspired my to give it a shot!

  36. Becky, both of your pieces are so beautiful - I am a big fan of multi-strand necklaces and I tend to favor a symmetrical style as well. You had such gorgeous color palettes to work with. One of my favorite aspects is the beadwork - it is so foreign to me and I really admire it. Your beaded button is perfect! Speaking of Beadwork, I met the former editor, Marlene Blessing last week in CO and I enjoyed hearing more about beading since it is a whole other medium!! :-)

  37. Hi Cindy, Thanx, I value your opinion. I'm glad that you like my beadwork. This challenge was lots of fun. I read on your blog about your trip & upcoming book. A very big contrats! I will be adding it to my bead library as soon as it comes out.
