My second color pallette is from the
Namib desert in Africa. When I was growing up in Minnesota I saw pics
of the desert and thought that it looked lifeless. My first trip to
Arizona I was amazed at the wildlife sounds and the feel of that
glowing sun on my skin standing in the desert. The Namib desert is
located on coastal Africa. The winds off the ocean can cause 980 feet
sand dunes. To represent the glowing sun feel I chose silver lined
glass lentals and seed beads. The lentals have spots of the light green in them. The grey green rectangles are a stone
called silver mist and they are the same green as the spots on the lentals. . The small discs in the center of outer strand are bone. The
rounds that complete the straps are yellow and green adventurine.
When I was designing this piece I thought that I would use a filigree
piece to wrap the focal but in the end I used the filigree as a bail.
Light brown pearls in rounds and a drop, bronze glass flower caps, filigree connectors,
and dark topaz crystal rondelles complete the ingredients for this
necklace. I am honored to be a part of this challenge. I hope that
you enjoy the pieces I made. Now please visit the other participants
in this great hop.

Love how you peyote stitched beads to go with your design.
ReplyDeleteThanx it was fun creating these pieces.
DeleteYou really did a grand job reflecting those color palettes in your pieces. They turned out very nicely!
ReplyDeleteThanx I'm kind of new to blogging so it feels really good to hear to hear your praise.
DeleteWeren't the Challenge of Color palettes just beautiful? I was so happy with the ones I got. You made such gorgeous pieces with yours! You did a fantastic job on this challenge!
ReplyDeleteThanx for your kind words. I agree that this challenge had really beautiful pics & it was fun too.
ReplyDeleteWell done! I especially like the way the beaded beads in the first design mimic the texture of the palette! Nice!
ReplyDeleteThanx Cynthia, That is what I was going for with the beaded beads.I'm glad that you like it.
DeleteCongratulations on doing both palettes!!! Your necklaces are both beautiful, but your Bolivian Deforestation piece is wonderful! Love your beadwork.
ReplyDeleteThanx for your compliments. I did the Bolivian piece first because I like those colors. I figured that if I had time I would do the desert color too. I am pleased with both pieces, even if the second pic isn't the best.
ReplyDeleteNicely done Becky!
ReplyDeleteThanx it's good to hear.
DeleteBoth pieces are so pretty, but I am especially drawn to the Namib piece, maybe because that was my own pallette. I think your piece reflects the spirit of that land.
ReplyDeleteThanx, I like hearing that others like my jewelry. I did the Bolivian piece first because I like those colors. Thursday night I couldn't sleep and the Namib piece was the result.
DeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI feel honored that you like my necklaces. You last BSBP was my first hop and this is my third. They are so much fun.
DeleteWhat lovely color palettes - and you did a super job with pulling together your beads within that color spectrum. I love both of your necklaces - but the first one is so full of tiny details with all your glorious beadwork and stitches <3 JLynn
ReplyDeleteThanx the first one is my favorite of the 2 also.
DeleteSuch pretty palettes to create with, and really beautiful designs! I love your bead work with such gorgeous bead focals. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThanx It always feel s go to have other jerelry artists like my work.
DeleteYou represented the color palettes so well. Sad about the rainforest growth. Happy to see your beading work. Andrea
ReplyDeleteThanx I'm very glad that you like it.
DeleteGreat work! We even shared a palette :)
ReplyDeleteThanx. Isn't it wonderful to see how other interpret the same pics that we use.
DeleteBoth of these pieces ae gorgeous, but I especially love the first one!!!
ReplyDeleteThanx Linda. It makes me feel great that my peers like my work. The first necklace I spent lots of time on & I like it best also.
DeleteGorgeous - both of your necklaces pull the colors from the palettes beautifully! I especially love the extra swags you added around the first pendant, and how much those glass lentils remind me of the sun in the second necklace.
ReplyDeleteThanks for playing along!
Thanx Brandi for providing the awesome palettes to work with. It's wonderful when someone with your color knowledge thinks that I did well.
DeleteThe beadwork in the fisrt necklace is amazing!
ReplyDeleteAmbra
Thanx, I'm proud of my work. To hear it called amazing is music to my ears.
DeleteOooh - both are gorgeous - what wonderful palettes!
ReplyDeleteThanx Caron, I liked both of my palettes a lot. It's hard to go wrong when working with such beautiful color palettes.
DeleteLove what I am going to label as "beaded beads"-can you tell I do not bead weave?! These are both beautiful! I really love the silver lined glass lentil in your second piece - they definetly say "desert" - beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteThanx Patti, Yes they are beaded beads. I had fun making them. I have trouble reading a peyote stitch pattern so I just do what my hands tell me to. I was digging through my stash when I spotted the lentils and thought that they were perfect to represent the sunshine. I got them at my bead group's last bead swap. I didn't have a plan for them. I just liked them. Now I know why I got them.
DeleteBoth pieces are beautiful. What wonderful palettes you had to work with. I think I am partial to the first one though...blues and pinks are my all time favorites.
ReplyDeleteThanx Ema, I'm partial to that one too. Wasn't this challenge exciting?
DeleteNice choice of beads to go with the pallet. Love the beaded beads though.
ReplyDeleteThanx Renetha, I had fun making the beaded beads. The first necklace is definitely my favorite.
DeleteYou did a fabulous job matching the color palettes along with the texture and feel of the photos. Lovely pieces!
ReplyDeleteThanx Michelle, The first necklace was easy to match because I love those colors so have lots of them in my stash.Yellow is more challenging for me but, I think that I did well.
DeleteTwo beautiful color palettes and two beautiful necklaces. You were right on in your designs! I, too, really like the colors in your first piece.
ReplyDeleteThanx, I had lots of funwith them. I guess that it shows which colors I like better.
DeleteBeautiful necklaces that oh-so-perfectly reflect their color palette inspirations! Love them!
ReplyDeleteThanx, I tried very hard to show the whole range of colors in my palettes. It make me feel really good when other jewelry artists like my work.
DeleteWow! I love both of these pieces that nailed the color schemes!
ReplyDeleteThanx, I'm glad that you like my necklaces. I had fun doing this . I found the colors inspiring.
DeleteI'm so impressed by the way you incorporated all the colors into each piece...beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteThanx it feels really go to have other jewelry artists like my work.
DeleteOh, wow - beautiful work on both necklaces. You matched your palettes perfectly and in very feminine designs! Wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteThanx Alicia, I liked the color palettes that I got. Pink & turquoise are my favorite colors so I had lots of those colors in my stash. The yellow lentils I got at the last bead swap at my bead group. I didn't have a plan for them but they seemed perfect for this challenge.
DeleteLovely designs, your palette were gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanx Penny, I agree that my palettes were gorgeous. It was fun working with them.
DeleteNow, you must have one hellof a stash to not buy anything new and come up with these two beautiful designs that are so lush. What a wonderful job, the first one especially - for me - is so incredible
ReplyDeleteThanx, It's wonderful to hear my work called incredible. I do have a pretty fair sized stash. Because I got my favorite colors I had lots to choose from.
ReplyDeleteHello Miss Becky! These have two distinctly different flavors. I think that the first is very lush, very romantic. The way you tied together all the colors in the three strands is perfect. And I quite like the extra turquoise swags. The second really has this arid desert feel from the sandy tones to the bleached bone beads. Those lentils are the sun for sure! Thank you for joining me on this journey of color! Enjoy the day. Erin
ReplyDeleteThanx Erin, I am pleased that you like my necklaces. I felt the center of the first necklace needed something more. First I made peyote ruffles in pink and turquoise but they didn't look right so I tried the swag & liked it. Thanx for putting on this great challenge. I will be back for more of your challenges. This was loads of fun.
ReplyDeleteBoth necklaces capture your palettes to the T. But the first piece with all the beadwork is gorgeous, stunning. I love the bead tubes and all the multi-strands. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanx Kay, It's great to hear that you think my work is stunning. I like that necklace better also.
DeleteBecky, I am in awe of your beading skills AND the way you did it all WITHOUT buying more stuff! Your designs are wonderful reflections of the two very different palettes.
ReplyDeleteThanx, No one has said that they were in awe of my skills before. I'm just getting started on the web with my jewelry and it feels great to have other jewelry artists praise. I had a harder time with the desert palette because I don't look good in yellow so I tend to not use it much.
ReplyDeleteFabulous work Becky! I have yet to try my hand at peyote, although I am intrigued by it. You have inspired my to give it a shot!
ReplyDeleteI just love your necklaces! The both fit the color palettes so well. You did a great job!
Thanx, I'm glad that you like my work. Wonderful that I inspired you to try something new. I think that you will be glad that you did.
DeleteBecky, both of your pieces are so beautiful - I am a big fan of multi-strand necklaces and I tend to favor a symmetrical style as well. You had such gorgeous color palettes to work with. One of my favorite aspects is the beadwork - it is so foreign to me and I really admire it. Your beaded button is perfect! Speaking of Beadwork, I met the former editor, Marlene Blessing last week in CO and I enjoyed hearing more about beading since it is a whole other medium!! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, Thanx, I value your opinion. I'm glad that you like my beadwork. This challenge was lots of fun. I read on your blog about your trip & upcoming book. A very big contrats! I will be adding it to my bead library as soon as it comes out.
