The Focusing on Life prompt this week is macro photography.I knew exactly what I wanted to photograph when I read this prompt. This Christmas cactus was my Grandmothers. Even though she has been gone for almost 40 years my Mom still has her Christmas cactus and it still blooms. I spent a couple of days at Mom's house this week and a chose this wonderful memory to be the subject of my photo.
I think it's so amazing that your Mom still has the plant and it still blooms after so many years! What a very special reminder of her. And what a beautiful photo! :)
ReplyDeleteI think that it is amazing too. That is why I chose to photograph it. Mom has more of a green thumb than I do.
DeleteWow! I never knew they could live that long! I love that it still blooms - lovely memorial to your G'ma :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that they live that long either. My sister has the original plant and Mom's was a start from hers shortly after Grandma passed away. Her Christmas cactus is still going and blooming too. It is huge.
DeleteI have pieces of my parents Christmas cactus.. mine isn't blooming right now though... not sure where it came from, guess it's too late to ask now.
ReplyDeleteMom's is almost done blooming for this year. Isn't it wonderful to keep those memories alive.
DeleteWhat a fantastic memory of your grandmother. My grandmother also had a green thumb which I clearly did not inherit. Her passion was African violets. The cactus flower you captured is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI didn't inherit her green thumb either. I keep trying to grow African violets also but they keep dying on me also. My oldest sister got her growing skills. I got her creativity though, lucky me.
DeleteWhat a beautiful bloom!! And what a beautiful legacy!!! And a beautiful photo!!
ReplyDeleteThanx Amy. I enjoy looking at her Christmas cactus. I have tried a few times to grow one without success. Her plant is in the room where I sleep at Mom's so I get to see it often.
DeleteOh my word, it still blooms after 40 years - how wonderful is that?! And, it's beautiful and so is your photo!!
ReplyDeleteYes it amazes me too that it still blooms. I think of Grandma often and marvel at her ability to grow flowers.
DeleteA gorgeous photo and memory!
ReplyDeleteThanx Sandi. I think of Grandma often. She is who my creativity came from.
DeleteA lovely photo. I'm amazed how long these plants can live.
ReplyDeleteThanx Alice. I am amazed too.
ReplyDeleteI tried and tried and tried but I could never get a Christmas cactus to bloom at all! Yours is beautiful and I know it's quite sentimental, too.
ReplyDeleteThanx Betty. Everyone has different talents with plants. I don't have the best luck with plants either. Yes I think of Grandma every time I see a Christmas cactus bloom and it makes me smile. I liked your jasmine photo.

ReplyDeleteThanx Karin. I think that I am going to get a shoot from it and try again to grow one.
DeleteI love your Christmas cactus picture! I've had good luck and disasters with them, but it's always Grandma's that remains in memory!
ReplyDeleteThanx Beti. I too have had good luck and disaster trying to grow them. It's fun to know that they remind you of your Grandma too.
DeleteGlorious! I had one that used to bloom for Easter. It was very confused....
ReplyDeleteThanx Patty. Mom's is almost done blooming for this year. It only had 2 blooms left.

ReplyDeleteThanx Beth, I understand about plants not surviving where you live. There is a lot of stuff that won't survive here either. I love seeing a Christmas cactus in bloom. It always makes me think of Grandma.
