Here is my first Kumihimo bracelet. If you don't know what Kumihimo is , it is a Japanese braid. I chose Aqua, one of my favorite colors, and black, to make the aqua stand out. I used  silver plated bead caps & a toggle clasp to finish it off. I tied one of the seed beads at the end of the string for fringe. I wire wrapped the ends of the string above the fringe  with aqua wire to make it secure & I used two pair of 4mm jump rings to attach the clasp. I tried 6mm jump rings to attach the toggle first but, they were too big. I didn't think that one 4mm was very secure so I doubled them up. I am pleased with my first attempt. I will probably do more. Stay tuned to find out.

  1. What a beautiful bracelet, Becky! My oldest son made a Kumihimo project in school last year and ever since then I was intrigued...something I'd like to try myself one day. Did you teach yourself or take a class? I think I would have chosen the same colors if I were to make one...just love aqua. I find that a good portion of the jewelry I make for myself is blue! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanx Cindy. I'm glad that you like my bracelet. I taught myself after reading a couple of magazine articles about it. It's easy. The only thing to remember was to be sure that the bead goes under a neighboring thread to hold it in place. At first I wasn't doing that, but after a couple of rounds I figured it out & tore out the mistake. I'm impressed that someone with your standing in the bead community likes what I did.

  3. I really love this Kumihimo bracelet. Can I purchase this in any beads store or would I have to make it on my own? Interested in buying a few actually. Please let me know how I can get a hold of them.
