Point of Focus
Today was the Demo & Do day at the bead group I belong to. I look forward to this day all year. We get together and have four 50 minute classes taught by our members. There are six choices as to classes at each session and pot luck lunch. Over the years I have participated I have learned a lot from these classes. This year I taught my first class there. I was very nervous about teaching but it went well. All my students grasped the technique and they said I was a good teacher. Yeah. Sally at http://thestudiosublime.com/ asked us to photograph "a crisp, clear moment of focus" this week for Focusing on Life. She called it the point of focus. She wanted us to photograph a moment in our lives that looking at the photograph would bring back instant memories. My first time teaching is something I will always remember. The photo above is of two of my students. I am passionate about beading and I want others to feel that passion. I try in any way I can to promote beading so teaching this class was something I could do to further that cause. I want days like this to continue so I try to do my part to see that it happens. I enjoyed teaching and I am sure I will do it again. If you would like to see what the other participants focused on this week please click Sally's link about.

Great to see your focus on the students, and their focus on the work!
ReplyDeleteThanx Beti. It was a wonderful day. Once I started the class my nerves went away I was able to relax and really enjoy what I was doing. I practiced a lot to have several ideas to show how the stitch could be used and so I was very familiar with what I was doing.
ReplyDeleteYour passion for beading sure came through in this post! I'm glad your first teaching opportunity went so well for you.
ReplyDeleteThanx Annette. I really enjoyed teaching and I will do more of it in the future. I signed up to teach developmentally challenged people once a month so I have designed a couple of really easy projects and I will get a little practice there.
DeleteI wish I could take your class. It sounds like a great event. Your students look very engrossed in their beading!
ReplyDeleteI taught chenille stitch which is easy, but that is what I wanted for my first teaching experience. I thought it might be too easy and no one would sign up but, there were seven students and everyone left with a new technique and they all seemed pleased. If I lived closer I would be glad to show you how to do it. It makes good straps. I did it in both size 11 and size 8 seed beads. I made 2 necklaces, two pairs of earrings, and a bracelet. The one necklace I used it to bezel a lampworked bead. It is very flexible so it works up nicely and has many uses.
DeleteWhat a fun event that must be, Becky :) I bet everyone else looks forward to Demo and Do Day!
ReplyDeleteI think that Demo & Do is a great idea and it is really fun. Yes it is a highlight of the year for many people.
DeleteWhat a cool idea! And those ladies are certainly focusing hard - great photo :) xx
ReplyDeleteThanx Claire. I thought my teaching was the perfect photo to fit this weeks theme. It was a wonderful experience.
ReplyDeleteWow!! Congratulations on a successful first class!!! I'm so happy for you. Doesn't it feel great to spread the beading love!!!!!???
ReplyDeleteThanx Amy. It was fabulous. It sure does feel great.
DeleteHow exciting for you. There's nothing like that look people get when they learn something fun and new....and you taught it to them. Congratulations
ReplyDeleteThanx Patty, It was definitely a day I will remember. I have always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with others but this was really special for me. All of the ladies understood the technique and were pleased with my teaching. One of the ladies was going home and make caterpillars for her two granddaughters who were coming to visit the next day.
DeleteSounds like you belong to a fun group. So glad your first time teaching went so well.
ReplyDeleteThanx Mary. I really enjoy connecting with other beaders. Yes it is a fun group. I will always remember my first teaching group. Several of the ladies I was already friends with.
