Focusing on life:black and white me
The focusing on life prompt this week was to take a self portrait and turn it to black and white. This is the first time I have ever taken a photo of myself. I am very camera shy and when the camera comes out I usually slide into the corner somewhere. I did follow Sally instructions to make the photo black and white. I chose to take the photo in my bedroom. Above the head of my bed I have a wall of pictures of women. Most are in 1800's outfits. The picture nearest to my head is my husbands Grandmother. Love how you set the photo up in front of your pictures, which look amazing. Would love to hear more about them in a future post! The expression on your face says, "Sally, I dare you to do this again!" :-)
ReplyDeleteMy husband say "quit making your picture face" whenever the camera comes out. So I was nervous about smiling. I hope Sally doesn't do this again.
DeleteLove the picture of you with the old photos in the background. We have all come up with some great work this week!
ReplyDeleteThanx Beti. I wish I had worn a hat like you did.
DeleteGreat photo, and I love that you chose such a thoughtful background.
ReplyDeleteThanx Alice.
ReplyDeleteI much rather be behind the camera than in front of it. Love the pictures on the wall that I could see, hope you share more of them at some time in the future. And great photo of you.
ReplyDeleteThanx Mary. I never thought of sharing my wall of women. It is just part of my everyday life. I studied 1800's costume for several years so the pictures have meaning to me.
DeleteGreat photo, I love that you are part of that wall of women!

ReplyDeleteThanx Patty. I am very camera shy so this one was hard for me but I figured that it was time to show my face so I did.

ReplyDeleteThanx Amy, I skipped the self portrait week last year so this year I figured it was time.
DeleteMy husband kept telling me my smile looked forced and unhappy, so I left it out! I think it was brave of all of us to take a selfie this week. I wonder how the women on your wall felt about having their photo taken.
ReplyDeleteMy husband says quit making your picture face so I didn't try to smile for my selfie. I think it came out better than if I had tried to smile. I never thought about my women wanting their picture taken or not.
DeleteWell, for the first time of taking a photo of yourself, you did great that's for sure! Love this one,..and I love that you did it in front of your wall of women photos that have such a special meaning to you - that's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanx Shel. My wall of women is my favorite spot in the house so it was a natural place for me to take a photo.
DeleteMiss Becky, I like the idea of the pictures of ancestors in the background. Because we are part of that story that they started! And you are beautiful and should remember that only you can bring your light to the world! Enjoy the day! Erin
ReplyDeleteThanx Erin. I appreciate your comment. That is a wonderful way to look at the world.
DeleteI too would rather be behind the camera, you did a great job and a very interesting background.
ReplyDeleteThanx.I love antique photos so I started hanging them on my bedroom wall. It seemed like the best place to take my self portrait.
ReplyDeleteI know how it is to be camera shy, it's a lovely photograph.
ReplyDeleteHi Judith. I just bit the bullet and made myself take the photo. It took a few tries to get it right but I am happy with the outcome.
DeleteGreat idea to have the photos in back. I love seeing vintage photos of "the way things were" and then taking your photo in front of them...pure genius! Thanks for the great post.

DeleteLike your phrase picture face.... That's what I do to ... I see a camera and I glump!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn. The picture face is why I didn't try to smile. It seems I am not alone in being camera shy.
ReplyDeleteBecky, it is so nice to see your beautiful face! I confess, I rather be behind the camera myself too!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderful comment. I am really glad that you are continuing this challenge.
ReplyDeleteWe struggle through it don't we! I love that your are amongst the other women, "brave enough" to face the camera. At least with digital and a self-portrait you also get the joy of deleting the ones that you wonder what the heck happened...the ladies behind you had to trust :)
ReplyDeleteThanx Emma. I agree it was hard for me but I am glad that I did it. I enjoy my wall of women. I did delete several before choosing this one.
